Chhaava: Vijay Vikram Singh reveals Vicky Kaushal was ‘deeply overwhelmed’ filming THIS scene; states, “We had to retake it three times”

Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava co-star, Vijay Vikram Singh, recently shared how the actor became emotional and started crying midway through a scene while filming. In an interview with India Today, Vijay revealed that the moment occurred when Vicky’s character, Sambhaji Maharaj, was declared the next Chhatrapati. Fans have seen Vijay portraying Peshwa Neelopant in Chhaava.

Vijay recounted, “There was a shot where Vicky Kaushal was declared the next Chhatrapati. In that scene, he walked ahead, followed by Ashutosh Rana, Vineet Kumar, and me. We had to retake the shot three times because, midway through, Vicky started crying. He was deeply overwhelmed by the thought that he was stepping into Sambhaji Maharaj’s shoes as the new Chhatrapati.”

He further added, “He was so immersed in the character that he truly felt the weight of his father’s loss and the immense responsibility he was about to take on.” Another scene featured a montage of his walk, and according to Vijay, Vicky’s walk itself reflected his sheer dedication. “He used to be Sambhaji Maharaj in that costume,” he remarked.

Vijay also praised Vicky’s efforts to master the Marathi language despite not being from a Marathi background. He noted, “He has been perfect with his dialect, and every time he rehearsed any dialogue, he ensured he pronounced the Marathi lines correctly.”

More about the film

The film, which premiered in theatres on 14 February, has grossed over ₹400 crore at the box office, making it the highest-earning Hindi film of the year. Chhaava is based on the life of the Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, with Vicky in the titular role.

Rashmika Mandanna plays his wife, Yesubai, in the film. Directed by Laxman Utekar, Chhaava has been produced under Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films. The cast also includes Akshaye Khanna, Diana Penty, and Ashutosh Rana in significant roles.
